Abstract
Local dental health administration must be developed in order to promote and maintain oral health of people. Provincial government has to make a plan of dental health program and manage necessary financial support. The purpose of this study was to establish local dental health administration in health center and in health division of provincial government. In order to collect the necessary information for development of the local dental health administration, the author questioned 53 dentists and 93 dental hygienists of the health center in province about the performance of community dental health programs, receipt of order of community dental health programs, proposal of community dental health programs, views on the need of institution of dental health team in health center, views on the need of institution of dental health subdivision in provincial government, knowledge of national oral health policy objective, knowledge of major oral disease in Chungcheongbukdo by telephone. The collected data was analyzed.
The obtained conclusions were as follows:
1. Institution of dental health subdivision in health division of Chungcheongbukdo provincial government is recommended for community dental health affairs.
2. Institution of dental health team in health centers at Chungcheongbukdo province is recommended for performance of community dental health programs.
3. School incremental dental care program in basic health laws was not legislated in Korea.It is recommended that the school incremental dental care program is legislated as a legal duty of health centers
4. The knowledge level of dentists, dental hygienists in health center on community oral health was poor. It is suggested that the educational curriculum in dental schools have to be reformed to strengthen
community oral health education. Also, it is recommended that their work education programs have to be developed for increasing their knowledge level on community oral health.
